Hazardous Area Electrical products and solutions: Using Explosion Proof Enclosures
68When it comes to explosion threats, they can take place in any commercial or residential environment. From arcing to sparks, there are so many things that can go wrong. This is why using the right electrical products and solutions that will provide safety from explosions is very important. Explosion proof enclosures are commonly used in such circumstances.
An explosive environment can be a serious life threat. Even something as simple as a spark can result in a dangerous blast if you don’t make the required changes. Electrical discharges are quite a common reason for such explosions and these can include switching arc as well as static discharge spark. This is why explosion proof enclosures and explosion proof junction boxes are typically used in construction projects to offer safety from such risks.
Sturdier than regular flame proof enclosures and much more heavy, explosion proof enclosures can be drilled in and they can offer protection because they are capable of taking four times more pressure that an explosion can release as opposed to other enclosures which will not be able to bear the force. These explosion protected junction boxes are halogen free and certified for use in explosion risk, hazardous areas.
Electrical equipment may contain problems like incendive sparking devices and arcing and flammable mixtures. These have a tendency to penetrate the junction box or enclosure. The unique design of explosion proof electrical enclosures on the other hand will provide safety from explosion because internal explosions can be contained and when it comes to outside the enclosure or junction box, the enclosures will also thwart transmission of enough energy that can actually ignite a flammable atmosphere.
Certified Electrical Equipment for Hazardous Areas
All regions of the world have specific safety requirements for construction projects and the codes about hazardous area electrical equipment installation need to be followed. This is done in order to avoid incidents and industrial accidents. Potentially explosive atmospheres can also be created by dusts, vapors and gases and similar precautions must be taken. Other important electrical products and solutions for such circumstances include conduit systems, junction boxes, cable glands, cable joints, plugs and sockets, cable transits, control stations, mobile phones, electrical enclosures, portable lighting digital cameras and cable cleats.
When internal sources of ignition accumulate it can cause fire blowups but the explosions proof enclosures can eliminate the pressures and problems that are the major cause of these explosions and hence offer prevention. Of course before you use the enclosure in your construction site, it is important to check whether the component comes internationally registered and certified. This is very important because not all explosion proof enclosures can offer a high level of safety. You will also need a special pattern and layout for installing the enclosure depending on the kind of area you are doing the installation in. This layout assures the kind of ventilation the electrical system requires and also allows gases to pass through and for the proper cooling off of the system.

Wow, now I'm scared. How can a person tell if an explosion-proof container has been used in, for example, a light switch or electrical socket?
As a kid my grandparents lived within about a block of some grain elevators (that's "tall grain storage cylinders" for you city-dwellers) near the railway tracks and I remember my parents (engineers) saying that the house would probably be destroyed if the grain elevators ever exploded due to the dust raised by the filling or emptying of the grain.
